Frederic Remington

Frederic Remington was born on October 4, 1861 in Canton, New York. He was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer, best known for his depictions of the American West. Remington's works capture the essence of cowboys, Indians and cavalry of the late 19th century and remain synonymous with the Wild West today.

Remington grew up in a wealthy family and showed an early interest in art and adventure. He attended Yale University, where he studied art, but his academic career was short-lived. After his father died, he left the university and began traveling around the western United States. These travels inspired many of his later works.

In the 1880s, Remington began selling his illustrations to magazines such as Harper's Weekly. His realistic and dynamic depictions of the West quickly caught on, making him one of the most sought-after illustrators of his time. In addition to his work as an illustrator, Remington also began painting and sculpting, focusing on the subjects that had made him famous.

Remington's paintings are known for their vibrant colors and ability to capture movement and emotion. His sculptures, such as the famous "The Broncho Buster," demonstrate his masterful ability to depict the dynamism and energy of the West in three-dimensional form. Despite his success as an artist, Remington was also a prolific writer and published several books and articles about the West.

Fun fact: Frederic Remington was not only a talented artist, but also an avid horseman and hunter. He spent a lot of time in the West to experience first-hand the landscapes and people he depicted. These experiences gave his works an authenticity that was highly valued by his contemporaries. Important works of art & pictures by Frederic Remington: 1. "A Dash for the Timber" (1889)
