Pierre Joseph Redouté, a renowned painter from the early 19th century, specialized in botanical illustrations and left behind an impressive body of work, including the depiction of the Chinese lilac 'Rothomagensis'. This work, created between 1801 and 1819, is characterized by its exceptional attention to detail and vibrant colors. Redouté used a technique called watercolor to capture the delicate beauty of the plant world, earning him the nickname "Raphael of Flowers." His illustrations served not only as works of art but also as scientific documentation that contributed to the classification and understanding of botanical diversity.

Interesting fact: Pierre Joseph Redouté enjoyed the patronage of the French Queen Marie-Antoinette and later of Joséphine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. His association with these influential women secured him commissions and recognition in the highest circles of French society and enabled him to practice his art at a level unrivaled in his time.

We use extra-heavy (400g/m2) premium canvas made from 100% cotton. The high grammage and texture of the canvas ensures a particularly high-quality and almost three-dimensional appearance.

Environmentally friendly

We only use original and high-quality pigment ink which contains real pigment particles. This is UV-resistant, solvent-free, vegan and environmentally friendly.

UV & moisture resistant

Thanks to the UV resistance of our pigment inks, the prints do not fade or discolor and retain their color brilliance for up to 100 years.
